Kolkata Knight Riders, who were two-time champions in the Indian Premier League, retained the Chinaman bowlers Kuldeep Yadav and Dinesh Karthik ahead of the 2021 season auction. Kuldeep played only five matches in the 2020 season. (KKR Retained and Released player)
Kuldeep had played only one ODI during India’s recently concluded tour of Australia and did not get a chance in the Test team even after injuries to frontline spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
But KKR has expressed confidence in them. The same questions were raised about Karthik whether he would be retained this season or not because during the 2020 season, he was replaced by the captain of the team Morgan. But the team’s confidence in Karthik has been shown.
KKR Released 6 players
Shah Rukh Khan-owned KKR released six players, including Morgan’s England teammate Tom Banton. Among the players excluded are three foreigners and three from India. KKR has also released Banton as well as Chris Green of Australia and Harry Gurney of England.
Gurney was not with the team last season. But in IPL 2019, he played in KKR’s jersey. Green had played the same match for KKR. After this, he was out. Banton was tried by KKR in two matches but both of them could not do wonders. (KKR Retained and Released player)
These Indians out of KKR
Among the Indian players, KKR excluded Siddhesh Lad, Nikhil Naik, and M Siddharth. KKR drove Lad and Siddharth out without feeding. Both of these were taken in the IPL 2020 auction. Nikhil Naik was with the team for two years. He also played a few matches for the team but he could never do effective batting.
