Mohammad Azharuddin is counted among the great players of the world. He is also one of the great captains of India, but the match-fixing heat had ended his entire cricketing career. Today, on 8 February 2021, Mohammad Azharuddin, who was celebrating his 58th birthday, was born on 8 February 1960 in Hyderabad. After getting all kinds of restrictions from cricket, he had entered politics, from where he reached the Parliament of the country.
His career as a cricketer was extremely brilliant. Mohammad Azharuddin was the only cricketer in the world to score three consecutive centuries in his first three Tests. However, his career was ruined due to being banned due to match fixing. Apart from match-fixing, he was shattered by two marriages, two divorces and the death of his son, but he did not give up and breathed peace by washing away the stains of match-fixing.
He scored 9378 runs in 334 ODIs for India. He was the first cricketer to score 9 thousand runs in One Day International cricket. Azhar has scored 7 centuries and 58 half-centuries in ODIs. At the same time, in Test cricket, his bat has scored 6215 runs at an average of 45.03, which includes 22 centuries and 21 half-centuries. He is also known as a great cricketer as a captain, who captained the Indian team for a long time.
Match fixing destroyed
In 2000, Mohammad Azharuddin was accused of match-fixing, which was considered correct and he was banned from life cricket. However, after 12 years in 2012, the Andhra Pradesh High Court rejected the life ban imposed on him, but it was too late by then as Azhar’s cricket career had ended much earlier. Meanwhile, he had the distinction of becoming an MP.
Azhar was also in discussions about marriage and extra-marital affair, as he had two marriages. Mohammad Azharuddin was first married to Naureen from his hometown and later began his affair with Bollywood actress and famous model Sangeeta Bijlani. Azharuddin divorced Naureen in 1996 and then married Sangeeta. After 14 years, the two also divorced by mutual consent.
On the other hand, Sangeeta was converted to Ayesha Begum, but Azhar’s life was not very happy even with Sangeeta. After a few years of marriage, there was a rift between the two, which ended in divorce. In 2009, Mohammad Azharuddin contested the Lok Sabha elections for the Congress from Moradabad seat. Sangeeta Bijlani campaigned and Azhar won the election, but both got divorced in 2010.
